Life in Pasadena….
11 AugFor those who have doubts about another post, where I presented a picture of our boys holding hands, this is further proof of how well Tom and Scott got along.
This photo was taken in the driveway of our home. Don’t they look nice – it is only skin deep!!
Led by Tom, these little monsters got hold of a can of black spray paint in our garage and proceded to paint our next door neighbors brick home.
But, they weren’t as tough as they thought, on Halloween night the first home we went to for trick-or-treating was the neighbor on the other side. She came to the door dressed as a witch and they ran crying, screaming, terrified to our house and would not come out again.
They were, together, big into crying in those days. At the Pasadena rodeo the clowns came out in one of those back-firing cars. Tom and Scott crawled under their seats and we could not get them to stop crying or to come out until the clowns were gone.
They did almost everything together – being just a year apart. I took them to swimming lessons for the first time where this nice swimming instructor had her pool covered by a roof to provide shade. It also, however, kept in the sound. As about a dozen kids got into the pool, Tom and Scott began to cry and yell at the top of their lungs. They could not proceed with the swimming lessons until I got my boys out of the pool and took them home.
Tom with brothers, uncle Easter 1965

One of the greatest gifts that Carole and I have always appreciated is how well our kids get along and how close they have always been. This is a photo of our oldest three – “the boys” – with their uncle, my brother John, on Easter 1965.
That’s Tom in the middle of the kids, holding tightly to the hands of his younger brothers – Scott on the right and Craig on the left. Craig is getting a little help standing from my brother.
Beth was still to come.
San Angelo Central Bobcats of Late 70′s
10 AugTom N0t Only One Packing On A Few Pounds, Years
Well, it is not just Tom that is getting a little older and packing on those middle-age pounds! If you were around San Angeo Central High School in the late 70′s you might have seen these guys. But, you would not recognize them now, probably. This is a recent photo of Tom with Bobcat classmates Scott Jennings, Kyle King, Bruce Fields and Gary Cochran.
Ah, those were the days, mostly of the dreaded, detestable club these guys had that racked havoc around West Texas…. what was it called?
About this Blog – He is actually 50 years old!
10 AugTom Sutherland has crested, hit his peak, reached the pinnacle of age 50 and is starting his long slide down the other side.
The mission of this blog is to help family and friends celebrate with him and make the slippery disent more bearable. So, join in and share your thoughts, memories and photos of Tom as you knew him best.
We welcomed Tom to this world on a hot and blistery August 16, 1961 in Robstown, Texas. Since that day he has spread his mayhem and his joy through the Texas cities of Mathis, Pasadena, Abilene, San Angelo, College Station, San Antonio and Dallas. And, along the way, he hit Hamilton and Lorain, Ohio.
But it is Dallas that has been home. That is where he built his successful career in commercial real estate. But, more importantly, that is where he married Laura Murillo and they created a wonderful family of four – Brooke, Trevor, Brynn and Colton. That is where unbearable tragedy struck with the loss of Laura in January 2010.
His focus for these last two years has been on their children but also on building his business – CASE Commercial Real Estate Partners – with his partner John Conger.
But, it is time to celebrate his five decades of life and share with him and all has friends our best memories of Tom. Some discretion is appreciated! But, if he did it, he has to live with it!
Enjoy yourself.
And in the beginning…

Just a few quick thoughts come to mind as I think of my son Tom’s early days
… when I first laid eyes on him in the hospital with his Mom, I commented that he looked like a catfish, all wrinkled and with a big mouth.
… even when he was still crawling, we had to hide the cat food from him to keep him from eating it.
… from the time he first wore diapers until now he is a meticulous dresser. As a small kid he wanted everything to fit as tight as possible, including his belt, and wanted all the shirt buttons fastened. What was that?
… he was always happy! And, he made us happy, too! Love, Pop
